During Paris Fashion Week it was Balmain’s turn to shine on Thursday afternoon and it caused a social media explosion with the French houses fall/ winter 2016 collection. Not to mention the alternation in hair colors. Let’s just say Balmain Isn’t what you’d call low key.
It’s no secret the brand is known for its huge model followers, and to lead the supermodel army wasKendall Jenner who opened the show (a natural brunette) In blue thigh high boots and minidress, followed by her BFF Gigi Hadid (a natural Blonde) in head-to-toe lilac. The two models had switched hair colors at the show in Paris. Kendall following the trend on the Kardashians and Gigi channeling sisterBella’s dark hair look. Both are taking the fashion industry by storm, having appeared in New York andLondon to Paris Fashion Week.
Hairstylist Sam McKnight “Olivier wanted to transform some girls with hair colour, so we did Kendall, Karlie and Alessandra as blondes, and Gigi, Lily and Rosie dark. All their opposite colours. We spent 10 hours prepping and cutting wigs”.
The ever extending Balmain Army also included Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jourdan Dunn andRosie Huntington-Whiteley showcasing the fall collection of mini dresses, suede, skinny second-skin pants, sequins, bra tops, fish nets and tiny waists corsets clinched by huge gold belts, accentuating the hips creating voluptuous curves into a bell hourglass shape. Embracing the amazing power of confident women emphasizing shape and proportion in the most attractive way.
Balmain has a huge amount of detail and embroidery in their pieces, also lashings of ruffles and fringe, sheer lace and fur trimmings, and is usually in the colors of black and white tones accented with gold, but also branching out to more powdery pastel colors like blue, pale lilac, green, grey and pink.
The soundtrack playing during the show was hits from the likes of Queen, Madonna, Kate Bush and the late David Bowie who died on Jan 10th playing “Under Pressure”.
It was no surprise to see Kris Jenner (Kendall’s Mom) in the audience, accompanied by Kanye West in the front row “I always come to Paris to support Kendall when she walks Balmain. She works so hard. All my children do. We have a lot of traditions when we spend time together here in the city. Tonight will be a lot of fun.”
