New Chanel store in Amsterdam is made of solid glass

Chanel has a new location with a new approach to construction for their new store. The entire front of the store is glass, not your original glass window but solid bricks made from detailed glass. The building was originally created by Dutch architects MVRDV who have described the glass bricks to be as strong as concrete, individually cast the material being completely recyclable. The Chanel boutique is located at the shopping street Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat in Amsterdam and was worked on every day for an entire year giving the illusion of a dissolving wall showcased at the windows frames and architraves to reconstruct the city’s traditional architectural character. The French fashion house carries the full ready-to-wear range and the crystal doors are now open.

“Crystal Houses make space for a remarkable flagship store, respect the structure of the surroundings and bring a poetic innovation in glass construction. It enables global brands to combine the overwhelming desire of transparency with a couleur locale, and modernity with heritage. It can thus be applied everywhere in our historic centres. Let’s bring back what will be demolished but develop it further” said co-founders of MVRDV.
